Do you wonder what it is like being a working dad? Learn what advice they have for new fathers!
Fathers are one of the most supportive, and hardworking roles in the family. They shape our worldview, influence how a family connects, and bring valuable teachings that inspire us to become the best version of ourselves.
This Father’s Day, we spoke with three fathers in XanPool and XanPay, to learn how they balance career ambitions and family aspirations.
Let’s welcome Raj, Umair, and Elvis.
Hi Raj, Umair, and Elvis, thank you for speaking with us today. Before we start, can you give us an introduction about you as a dad and your role in XanPool and XanPay?
Hey everyone! I am the Head of Commercial for XanPay, driving the efforts for both merchants and partnership acquisition. I lead the Business Development team and strategize ways to generate revenue to grow our B2B payment gateway brand, XanPay. At home, I am moonlighting (a.k.a part-timing) as a father to a 6-year-old boy.
Hi, there. I am the Product Designer in XanPool/XanPay, happily working remotely in Pakistan. Blessed with 2 beautiful kids, I have a son and a daughter. I love them to bits, they never fail to always brighten up my days. My kids enjoy helping me with my daily routine, especially my daughter, she loves getting me all prepared for work.
Hello, and thank you for having me today. I am the Business Development Executive in the Payments Network team, the product that powers both XanPool and XanPay. My role is to identify and secure the right partnerships in the Finance industry that can give us the ability to extend the reach of our payments collection and payout. These partnerships are mainly in the Finance industry and they can be institutions like banks or Fintech organizations.
1. How is it like doing what you do at XanPool & XanPay and juggling daddy duties at home?
Being in a role with accountability for the success of the organization and my team, sometimes it can get challenging to turn the switch off from work to spend time with my son. With XanPay's flexible work arrangements, it has spurred me to manage a better work-life balance routine. Now, I turn off both email and Slack notifications on the weekends, focused on spending quality time with my son. Just being present and watching him grow in many ways give me a sense of unmeasurable pride.
I feel lucky to have the opportunity to create great value in my role and be given the option to work remotely. At times, it can be quite challenging. Keeping my children occupied while working, and doing it daily for a longer period of time requires not only a good time management schedule and lots of patience. But, seeing their happy faces and funny antics makes it all worth it.
It is a fun challenge being in a Fintech startup. There are always things to discover, be it understanding the regulatory differences between countries, or researching the ways how businesses function abroad. Each discussion is always exciting and never the same. The work-life flexibility in XanPool/XanPay is something that I am always grateful for because it makes it easy for me to juggle both family and career without the need to sacrifice one or the other.

2. Can you share a memory with your kids(s) that you remember the most?
There are a lot of them but there is one that stood out. I was invited to my son's school for a student-led conference that doubles up as a year-end party. It was almost like he was a different person. He was so enthusiastic about showing off his classroom, his school, and his friends. I was very well taken care of throughout the event. It was really fun to see how much he enjoyed school.
There is never a dull moment with my kids. They bring me new joys every day. If I were to recall the most memorable moment, it would be the time when they were born. That was the moment where I feel all types of emotions and really instill in me that sense of duty to protect and love this family with all I could.
This is a difficult question because every moment is so special. But if I had to pick one, it would be our recent trip to the Singapore Zoo. We always went out as a family, but this was the first time we have a one-to-one bonding time, seeing new animals and discovering new things. We both had a great time at the zoo, but we will return as a family because we want to bond not just as individuals but as a whole family.

3. What is a piece of advice you would give to a young working father?
Family always comes first. Work hard, sure, but not at the expense of the time with your kids. It is easier said than done but having a diligent cut-off period during evenings and weekends does help in getting quality time with them.
Maintaining a work-life balance between work and family requires time and attention. Nobody said it is going to be easy, and it will always going to be work-in-progress. As long as you try your best, that's all anyone could ask for.
Try to manage your time at work effectively so you can spend quality time with your child. At times, you may feel like there is an endless amount of work to do, but there's nothing like missing the precious times you should be having with your kids than missing work. These moments may not come by again, so treasure them and spend your time wisely.
